The new Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) which came into effect on 6 April 2015 with a 6-month transition period have, in addition to abolishing the role of CDM co-ordinator (CDMC), broadened the responsibilities of the client to include the appointment of a designer with control over the pre-construction phase.
The Royal Bank of Scotland have been quick to recognise the benefits of a suitably qualified Principal Contractor being appointed to undertake the additional Principal Designer role on design and build projects and we are extremely appreciative that we were seen to have the range of complementary skills, knowledge and experience to be awarded this dual appointment.
Our responsibilities will include leading and co-ordinating project design risk strategy, developing all relevant pre-construction information and undertaking a number of the duties previously held by the CDMC, including preparation of the Health and Safety File.
We look forward to working closely with our client to ensure that the dual appointment drives improvement in the quality and communication of pre-construction information and finds greater efficiencies in projects progressing through the design phase to site, whilst maintaining the highest level of safety, during construction and for building users.
